The royal family’s walking route

Your home is on or near the route

We want this great national celebration to go well and safely. That requires a lot of preparation. Your street may be less accessible for a few days due to all the preparations. We are trying to minimize any disruption.

Impact on accessibility downtown

To make it a festive day with accompanying live broadcast, many preparations are needed. Construction of stages, cameras, stands and scenery begins about a week before the event. From then on, we close some roads and parking lots to allow safe construction. Toward Saturday, April 26, the number of closures and measures increases. After the event, dismantling will take several days. The closures and measures will then be lifted gradually.

Closures and measures

View the map of traffic measures, which shows exactly which measures apply in which spot. This map also shows which parking spaces are available and which must remain free. Do you have a parking permit for the center? If so, you have received an email from Buha explaining alternative parking spaces.

We are temporarily closing part of the parking lots where you are allowed to park with a CR1, CR2, CENTRUM or SPECIFIC PERMIT (Catharina garage, Tjalmastraat, Hofstraat (formerly Mediamarkt), Stokhorstweg, Gruitpoort (partially) and Raadhuisstraat. See the traffic measures page for more information and requesting alternative parking.

In addition to the map, in the coming weeks we will fill the website with more and more important information about the event, such as waste collection.

Garbage

Garbage collection in the center will continue on the usual days.

Downtown cameras

As with any major event, there is a focus on safety during King’s Day. Kings Day should be a celebration for all residents and visitors, that is paramount. And everyone should be able to feel safe. In the center we therefore temporarily hang extra cameras. These cameras are sometimes close to homes, but they never film in homes.

Frequently asked questions

Within the ring of streets below is the car-free area. Private parking lots and garages we are still looking at separately. If you are not allowed to park there, we will let you know. Around the car-free area will be a car-free area. Measures are also needed here. Entering the areas is only allowed under certain conditions and can be read on the page Traffic measures.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to give priority to residents on the route.

You may invite people. You are responsible for safety, for example when it comes to the number of people who can stand in front of a window or on a balcony. We cannot guarantee that you will have a full view of the event.

It will naturally be very festive if we have a beautifully decorated city center. You are definitely allowed to decorate.

Do you live directly on the route and does your window/gable/balcony overlook the route? Then we may ask you all to put up the same facade decoration. We will come back to that later. In any case, no advertising may be hung; NOS may not put it on screen. If you live along the route, there may be stage pieces placed in front of your home that may (partially) obstruct your view.

Have your family, friends, caregivers or home health aides read the traffic measures. In the days before the event, they may not be able to park on your street. Allow for longer travel time and make arrangements with each other in good time. We also inform care organizations about the closures and measures. Emergency and emergency services always have access in the center. In life-threatening situations, as always, call 112.
