The royal family’s walking route

View the route.

Your home is on or near the route

We want this great, national celebration to go well and safely. That requires a lot of preparation. It may happen that your street is less accessible for a few days due to all the preparations. We try to keep any inconvenience to a minimum. Is your business on the route? Then it may also be open during King’s Day.

Impact on accessibility downtown

To make it a festive day with accompanying live broadcast, many preparations are needed. Construction of stages, cameras, stands and scenery begins about a week before the event. From then on, we close some roads and parking lots to allow safe construction. Toward Saturday, April 26, the number of closures and measures increases. After the event, dismantling will take several days. The closures and measures will then be lifted gradually.

Closures and measures

On Monday, March 31, we will post a map on this website showing exactly which measures apply in which spot. This map will also show which parking spaces are available and which must remain free. Do you have a parking permit for the center? If so, you will soon receive an e-mail from Buha explaining alternative parking spaces. Besides the map, we will fill the website in the coming weeks with more and more important information about the event, such as about waste collection.

Walk-in meeting April 2

We invite residents and business owners to a walk-in meeting on Wednesday, April 2. You can then ask questions about the closures and measures. You can do so at the following times:

  • between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for entrepreneurs
  • Between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. for residents

Company opening hours

Businesses are allowed to remain open on King’s Day. At this moment, we do not yet know what the business hours of the hospitality industry will be during King’s Night on Friday evening. As soon as we know, we will inform hospitality business owners and post the information on the website.

Suppliers and staff

Business owners will receive a letter with the latest information in mid-March.

We want a festively decorated city center. Doetinchems Hart, Binnenstadbedrijf, and the municipality of Doetinchem are in talks about how we can support businessowners in this. As soon as we have more information, we will inform you via Chainels. Businesses along the route are absolutely not allowed to put up any adverting whatsoever. The NOS is not allowed to show advertising during the broadcast.

Nothing may be hung or handed out along the route that shows advertising. The NOS is not allowed to show any advertising during the broadcast. Doetinchems Hart, Binnenstadsbedrijf and the municipality of Doetinchem will ensure that spectators receive orange materials to make it a festive whole.

No, on Saturday 26 April 2025 you are not allowed to sell anything along the route in public space. The available space is used for the royal family walk and for the visitors of King’s Day.

Yes, on Saturday 26 April 2025 it is still permitted to sell something on the terrace of your business in the city centre. The responsibility for this lies with the business owner. Report your activity by e-mail via [email protected].
For the catering industry, a tap point is permitted. A stall where food is prepared is not. The heat source is then too close to the building, which poses a fire hazard. A stall where food is kept warm electrically is permitted. Pay attention to food safety.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to give priority to business owners along the route.
