King’s Day concert on April 7

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty Queen Máxima will offer the annual King’s Day concert on Monday evening, April 7, in the Amphion Theater in Doetinchem. The concert will be attended by the public involved in the organization of the King’s Day celebration in Doetinchem and in music and music education in the Achterhoek.

This year, the ensemble Pynarello will be central to the King’s Day concert. A program has been put together with contributions from musical talent from Doetinchem and the Achterhoek, among other places. With singer Emma Luca, singer-songwriter and musicologist Shisani, pianist Caspar Vos and collective De Niemanders, nine pieces will be performed in varying formations. In this, classical music will be connected with rock, pop and music from different cultures.

The King’s Day concert traditionally takes place in the month before King’s Day. The initiative was taken in 1985 by Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus. Each year, a different combination of ensembles and artists takes centre stage. Until 2013, the concert took place at Noordeinde Palace. Since 2014, the concert has been organised in the municipality where the Royal Family celebrates King’s Day. On Saturday 26 April, the Royal Family will attend the King’s Day celebration in Doetinchem.

The King’s Day concert will be broadcast on Saturday, April 26 at 8:30 PM on NPO 2.
