Over 300 People Shared Their Ideas for King’s Day in Doetinchem

A month ago, the municipality of Doetinchem called for ideas for the organization of King’s Day. Over 300 residents, businesses, organizations, and associations responded to this call. We would like to sincerely thank everyone for their input and beautiful ideas. With this wealth of information, we are now working on creating the program.

We have recieved many creative, special and humorous ideas among the over 300 submissions. Think of showcasing the innovative power of Doetinchem’s businesses to flag-waving for the king. And, from a boat parade on the Oude IJssel to creating street art together with the king. Many ideas focused on showcasing the strength of the Achterhoek. Or our neighborliness, the beautiful regional products, and getting to know our creative and musical talents, where the Achterhoek dialect should not be left out.

Going the Extra Mile

There were also residents who went the extra mile to draw more attention to their idea. For example, a resident who drove to the Oranjehuis in Boliestraat with an orange car and orange caravan to pitch his idea. Another striking example was two boys from the Zone College who braved the pouring rain to share their idea with us. In addition to submitting ideas, about 65 residents or organizations also offered to help implement their idea or to contribute in other active ways. We will certainly keep these offers in mind. We will get back to them once we start to actively recruit volunteers. More on this later.

Picking Up Ideas

We try to incorporate as many ideas as possible into the program. Unfortunately, we cannot use all of the ideas. Not everything is possible nor will everyting fit into the program, of course. When planning the route, we must consider the wishes of the Royal House, the space we have on the route, and of course the safety requirements.

Next Step

Sorting through all the ideas and drafting the program is a careful process. This will take some time. Therefore, it may take a while before the people who submitted their ideas receive a response on whether their idea will be used or not. We expect to announce the route in February and the schedule for the festivities in will be announced in March.
