On this page you can read more about the information you need to know as a resident of Doetinchem. We will update this page as soon as new information is available.

The royal family’s walking route

Your home is on or near the route

We want this great national celebration to go well and safely. That requires a lot of preparation. Your street may be less accessible for a few days due to all the preparations. We are trying to minimize any disruption.

Impact on accessibility downtown

To make it a festive day with accompanying live broadcast, many preparations are needed. Construction of stages, cameras, stands and scenery begins about a week before the event. From then on, we close some roads and parking lots to allow safe construction. Toward Saturday, April 26, the number of closures and measures increases. After the event, dismantling will take several days. The closures and measures will then be lifted gradually.

Closures and measures

View the map of traffic measures, which shows exactly which measures apply in which spot. This map also shows which parking spaces are available and which must remain free. Do you have a parking permit for the center? If so, you will soon receive an e-mail from Buha explaining alternative parking spaces. Besides the map, we will fill the website in the coming weeks with more and more important information about the event, such as about waste collection.

Walk-in meeting April 2

We invite residents and business owners to a walk-in meeting on Wednesday, April 2. You can then ask questions about the closures and measures. You can do so at the following times:

  • between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. for entrepreneurs
  • Between 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. for residents

Walk-in meeting location

Raadhuisstraat 2, 7001 EW Doetinchem

Parking at my home

We are currently working on a mobility plan. This includes where you can park your car and where temporary additional bicycle parking will be located. As soon as the plan is ready, more information will be available on the website. Permit holders will soon receive a message from Buha with information about temporary parking spaces for permit holders.

Garbage

In some places in the city centre, underground containers are temporarily removed and/or closed. It is also possible that a collection day changes. Buha communicates via the Afvalwijzer, their website, social media and the municipal page in the Doetinchems Vizier about the waste collection around King’s Day.

Frequently asked questions

Within the ring of streets below is the car-free area. Private parking lots and garages we are still looking at separately. If you are not allowed to park there, we will let you know. Around the car-free area will be a car-free area. Measures are also needed here. Driving into these areas is only allowed under certain conditions. When exactly we will establish these areas and what the conditions are, you will read on this page from Monday, March 31.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to give priority to residents on the route.

We will soon announce which measures apply to delivery services around King’s Day.

You may invite people. You are responsible for safety, for example when it comes to the number of people who can stand in front of a window or on a balcony. We cannot guarantee that you will have a full view of the event.

It will naturally be very festive if we have a beautifully decorated city center. You are definitely allowed to decorate.

Do you live directly on the route and does your window/gable/balcony overlook the route? Then we may ask you all to put up the same facade decoration. We will come back to that later. In any case, no advertising may be hung; NOS may not put it on screen. If you live along the route, there may be stage pieces placed in front of your home that may (partially) obstruct your view.

Let your family, friends, caregivers or home care read this letter. In the days before the event, they may not be able to park in your street. Take into account a longer travel time and make arrangements with each other in good time. We also inform healthcare organizations about the closures and measures. Emergency and aid services always have access to the center. In life-threatening situations, call 112, as always.
